Character Name: Jace Beleren
Canon:Magic: The Gathering

Canon Background: MTG Salvation Wiki

AU Background: Mostly the same as his canon history up to Agents of Artifice. However, instead of his mentor hiding the fact of his Planeswalker spark from him, he found out about the crystal that was hidden from him. In his current days, he's a mind mage who makes his living off of blackmailing corrupt nobles and businessmen who come to Dalaran and/or selling secrets gotten through telepathy. It's a dirty job and often tracks unwanted attention, but he knows how to deal with it.

Personality: If there is one thing that is the very core of Jace's being, is that there is a constant quest for knowledge. It does not matter what it is, his mind is a curious one, and he will use what he has at his disposal to learn what he needs to. Storytellers, dusty tomes in archives, and even the minds of others if required. His ideal night is one spent in an ancient library, unearthing the secrets held within. He absolutely prefers solitude in his research, and would rather be left alone so he can concentrate fully on the task at hand. He has a brilliant mind and is a quick thinker, and will often come up with clever solutions to any problems at hand. His thirst for knowledge also makes him a fast learner. Though he prefers solitude, he will not hesitate to share the knowledge if he feels it to be right.

As one would expect of a bookworm like Jace, he's rather quiet. He does not like dealing with people unless absolutely necessary. Having the power to read minds, he often runs into unpleasant thoughts, things one would be better off not knowing. As a result, when dealing with others, it can tend to be awkward. He'll hide things from others, especially if it is to protect them from being hurt. As an example, he kept his identity secret from a woman whom he considered a close and trusted friend, to keep his tracks hidden for her safety. His dealings with romance are as just as awkward, but when he finds someone he cares about, he will go at great lengths to help them, even if they have betrayed him at some point.

Jace's methods of dealing with things involve more reaction than reaction. An enemy's brute and reckless force is often his greatest weapon. The only time he is forced into action is when the anger he holds within him explodes to the surface. When that happens, minds often get wiped and completely destroyed, and he leaves with a bitter taste in his mouth. His great power over the mind has lead him down some dark paths, paths which have left him with incredible guilt and sorrow. He does not like causing pain and suffering, feeling extremely guilty every time he hears their dying thoughts echo in his head. Some of the pain he's caused he'd like to erase from his mind completely, which he will try to do, but all the mental magic in the world cannot erase the emotion of guilt.

Combat Style: Jace's primary method of combat is one of a reactionary nature. Counter-magic and binding magic are his tools of the trade. In combat, his magic is more for subduing and nullifying threats rather than eliminating them. He can also use powers of deception and mind control on those who have weaker magic resistance. Worst comes to worst he can summon familiars in the form of cloud sprites and small fairies, but these are not as effective for combat purposes. If given enough time to concentrate, he can make individuals forget how to even fight, however, he does not prefer this method.

Sample Post: Doing the tarot questions...

Your liege has called upon you to perform a task of great importance. Upon what do you rely to complete it?

There are few things that cannot be solved through use of knowledge and wits. Knowledge is a universal solution to every problem, and knowing how to use it is just as important as having it.

Your rival in court knows something that you do not, and this knowledge is giving them the advantage. How do you address this issue?

Patience. Even if they know info that will give them the advantage, there will always be an opening if you know how to outthink your opponent. I could simply take the knowledge from their mind, but that would be almost too easy.

What is love to you?
A feeling of warmth, of acceptance. A bond of trust and loyalty between comrades, friends, even those who are romantically involved. Even though it can counteract logic, it's necessary in this world.

You are given the opportunity to bet everything you have for great fortune, should you win you will be granted the wealth of kings but should you lose you will lose everything. What do you do?

Examine the opportunity. Foolishly rushing in without thought will only lead to regret.

What do you want people to remember about you after you are gone?

I would rather them remember nothing, as I am not without regrets. Those that would remember me probably wouldn't like me very much.

Everything you love and held dear has been taken from you in the blink of an eye. What do you do?
Do what I can to fight back, if they can be saved. If they can't, I failed them. Wiping my memories of them would be the only way to cope with the pain.

What are your aspirations?
I wish to learn all that there is to know. Not for fame or fortune, but simply because that knowledge is a greater wealth than either of those things. I wish to achieve my full potential, while being loved and welcomed despite my powers. Being able to read minds doesn't exactly win you many friends.

What do you need to know that you do not know already?

Everything.

What do you do in the face of great adversity?

Focus and attempt to remain calm. Rushing in with brute force, attempting to break things will only result in the body being broken. I'll do what I can to control the situation, waiting for an opportunity to press an advantage.

Why do you deserve to rule this land?
I do not deserve to rule anything, nor will I ever desire such a burden.

Have a mediocre sample from Mayfield as well~

Abilities: Jace is a Blue-aligned Planeswalker. Planeswalkers are mages who have the ability to travel between planes of existence. He can hop dimensions, to put it in simpler terms. Those who are adept with Blue mana excel in the art of trickery, deception, and counter-magic. Threats are more subdued and controlled rather than eliminated. Jace is capable of such magic, he prefers the art of illusion and subudal with binding spells over other methods. He is also capable of summoning creatures, mostly Faeries and sprites, but can sometimes summon larger creatures such as sphinxes or small drakes. However, larger creatures provide a great strain on his body and mind, and he prefers to not use them. Jace is a special case among Blue mana users though, as he has more power over the mind than the average mage. It goes beyond simple telepathy and thought-reading. He has the capabilty to mold minds. He can create and erase thoughts as he sees fit. He can, quite literally, break someone's brain, if he wished it. However, this is something he hates doing, and only does when it is absolutely needed. This will all come with the appropriate permission posts, of course!

He's weak physically, but he has used his abilities in the past to allow him to learn how to fight hand-to-hand and with a sword.
Sample Entry: [Jace, having recently regained some of his powers, attempts to try something that probably everyone with the same power has done in Mayfield... trying to get a reading on the drones. He, however, is completely surprised when his results come up with nothing.]

How peculiar... maybe I just wasn't concentrating hard enough. Another try is warranted.

[Again, nothing. This wasn't working. Why wasn't it working? It's getting under his skin, feeling like this place was mocking him, giving him his powers back with them unable to help him solve the biggest piece of the puzzle that is Mayfield. In a rare moment, there is a large burst of energy. This place was stifling. The library was of no help, finding most of the information to be useless, no matter how many books he looks through. The irritation boils up, causing him to erupt, and snap.]

Figures, they would give me back my powers and just deprive me of knowledge. Why. WHY. WHY?! Why does this place do nothing but hide knowledge, treating it as if it was a threat to our existence! That poor excuse for a library is full of nothing but useless information! Perfectly tailored to these drones, I'm guessing. I feel horribly out of my element here, a sore thumb on this... I don't even know if one could call it a plane!
Rest assured though, I will get to the bottom of this place.
[The drone finally notices him after his outburst of anger, and does what drones do best: annoy the piss out of everyone trapped in Mayfield.]
Golly, it sure is a great day here in Mayfield, isn't it, Mr. Beleren? Turn that frown upside-down!

[And that does it, within moments the drone is sent flying into a tree, as if hit by a burst of air.]

Shut. UP!!

[Sighing, Jace continues on his way. He really did not want to do that.]
